Riau will be connected with Jambi, West Sumatera and North Sumatera Provinces by a 616-kilometer toll road. The construction of Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road which is also known as Permai of 131 kilometers in length, has been inaugurated by President Jokowi.  It will be continued by the construction of a toll road from Rantau Prapat, North Sumatera to Dumai (Riau) and from Pekanbaru to Pangkalan, West Sumatera, as well as Pekanbaru-Rengat to Jambi. The toll roads are expected to be completed in 2024.
